FARC Guerrillas Kill 8 in Colombia

Colombia’s army said eight people, including two civilians, were killed in an attack Saturday by FARC guerrillas in the southwestern town of Inza.

Among the dead are three army officers, a non-commissioned officer, an enlisted man, a police officer “and two individuals, apparently residents of the region,” the army’s 3rd Division said in a statement.

The guerrillas threw several explosive devices in the early hours of the morning at the police station in Inza, Cauca province, which brought the building down, while also causing great damage and injuries in nearby homes, according to the authorities.

The army blamed the attack on members of the 6th Front of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, and described it as “a mad, treacherous attack” that was perpetrated “at a time when the community was organizing activities for a country market.”

Seven members of the security forces were also wounded in the attack, the statement said.
