2 Colombian Police Officers Killed in FARC Attacks

Two police officers were killed and another wounded in separate attacks by FARC rebels in southern Colombia, authorities said Friday.

In Milan, Caqueta province, patrolman Jhon Freddy Alvarez Hernandez died when rebels opened fire on a police station.

The attack, which police attribute to the 15th Front of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, was launched Friday before dawn.

The other attack occurred in Cauca province, where suspected guerrillas shot bursts of rifle fire at cops who were keeping watch on an important highway.

Killed in that incident was Lt. Oscar Guatavita, while patrolman Giovanny Montero Rodriguez was wounded, police said.

The Colombian government and the FARC have been negotiating a peace agreement in Cuba since November 2012.
