The newspaper attributed its information to Virgilio Mendez, director of the Philippine National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). He claimed to have been informed by “a foreign drug agency” of the “imminent” arrival of the murderers “to silence” alleged associates. These criminals were arrested last month.
“We received reports from reliable intelligence about the alleged murderers, but we also had to validate them,” Mendez said.
This is an indication of the interest of Mexican criminal groups to actively intervene in world drug markets, especially in Asia.
In December 2013, Philippine police raided during which seized 84 kilos of methamphetamine, worth about $ 9.4 million, the Associated Press reported. According to the authorities the owner of the property where drugs, a Filipino-American named Jorge Torres were found to be the main contact for the Sinaloa Cartel in the country.
Police arrested after three native Mexican Sinaloans believed to be related to Torres.
