Captives Rescued From Kidnappers in Mexico
Federal Police rescued two kidnapping victims and arrested their captors, the secretary of Mexico’s National Public Safety System said.
The successful police operation place Wednesday in Mexico City’s Tlalpan neighborhood, Monte Alejandro Rubido Garcia said.
The captives, who were abducted Nov. 20 and Dec, 4, respectively, were found “in subhuman conditions, notably malnourished and with visible marks of torture,” he said.
One captive had a fractured nose, while both of the other’s ears were mutilated, the official said.
The kidnappers were on the verge of killing the pair and burying them in an already prepared grave, Rubido said, adding that police would soon begin the process of exhuming two earlier victims from an adjacent grave.
Authorities said the three suspects arrested Wednesday were also responsible for the Dec. 4 abduction of three people ages 13, 20 and 28.
The first of those captives was released last Friday after the payment of 342,000 pesos ($26,000) and the second was found dead Dec. 11.
The 28-year-old captive was freed Tuesday.
The gang’s modus operandi fits at least five other kidnappings in Tlalpan, Rubido said.
