False Story Debunked: Yellowstone National Park “Severe Earthquake/Volcanic Activity” Circulating Internet! Equipment Malfunction!
I was doing some research on a story circulating the internet claiming there is severe earthquake activity at Yellowstone National Park, as well as the possibility of volcanic eruption. However, during my internet browsing on this, I found out, straight from the USGS website, that this story making such claims is a false alarm.
See this excerpt from one of the many false stories below:
*** FLASH *** INDICATIONS OF SEVERE EARTHQUAKE / ERUPTION AT YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
Sunday, 02 February 2014 05:06– (TRN) — A seismometer inside a borehole at Yellowstone National Park has begun reporting staggering underground activity near the southwest corner of Yellowstone Lake, possibly signaling the beginning of an eruption of the Super Volcano at the Yellowstone National Park. TRN has obtained the image of the Seismograph report and now YOU can see it for yourself! This could be very nasty. . .
Yellowstone lake is pretty much the center of what is the Yellowstone Caldera; the mouth of a massive Super Volcano, located beneath the park. The activity began around 12:00 Noon, Mountain Standard Time (MST) on February 1, and was detected by a seismometer in Borehole B944 then continued, non-stop, all day yesterday getting worse and worse as the hours wore on. The activity is continuing right now at 6:06 EST AM as this news article is being produced. The map below shows the location of Borehole B944 in relation to Yellowstone Lake and the rest of the park. The readings being reported from seismometer inside Bore Hole #B944 are literally “off-the-scale.” Is an earthquake brewing, or is this the beginning of a catastrophic eruption of the Yellowstone “Super Volcano?” —GOLD SILVER FORUM
However, I would like to put this false alarm to rest, as it should be. First, let me say that there are many frightful things happening today around the globe that many of us are showing you because we are trying to warn you so that you will be prepared. But, when we come across a false story, or an honest mistake in some cases, as this one, we absolutely must make you, the reader, aware. As credible journalists, it is our responsibility to make sure you are properly and honestly informed.
It does not appear that these people who are putting the story out were being misleading, rather, as a message states below from the USGS website, one of their “seismometers” was malfunctioning, putting out false signals.
This is straight from the USGS website, and you can go there and see for yourself. Also, I have a few friends and family who live near the said area who also claim this ‘severe activity’ report is false. Please follow the link and see for yourself. Again, it appears to be based on a malfunction of their equipment, so I am sure that whoever originally posted this story made an honest mistake. And, those are re-posting it are doing so honestly as well. Who wouldln’t? If it were real, it would be a huge deal!

Current Aviation Color Code: GREENA story reporting abnormally strong earthquake activity in Yellowstone National Park has been circulating across the Internet over the last few days. In fact, earthquake activity in Yellowstone has been at normal levels for the past several months.
The story appears to be based on a misinterpretation of public “webicorders”, which are graphics depicting seismic data, on the University of Utah Seismographic Station (UUSS) web site (UU operates the Yellowstone Seismic Network). A borehole seismometer called “B944″, located near the West Thumb region of the Park, has been malfunctioning in recent weeks with strong bursts of electronic noise contaminating its data. These noise bursts appear as wild excursions on the B944 webicorders that can appear alarming to the inexperienced eye.
Along with providing regular monthly updates, the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory also releases topical information statements whenever truly abnormal activity occurs.

Hey Mr. A! Since when did ASKING QUESTIONS about viral internet news become a ‘misleading and untruthful story’? It’s really simple to READ my story and you’ll quickly see that I’ve got a lot of questions about what is going viral on the internet as well…. you’ll quickly learn, Mr. A, that ASKING QUESTIONS about stuff like this is MUCH DIFFERENT than providing untruthful stories…
A story released on Before It’s News this morning asked the question, “What’s Going On At Yellowstone?” Does this story from Turner ANSWER that question? Is the ‘illuminati’ attempting to trigger an ‘extinction level event’ by trying to blow up Yellowstone National Park by using a ‘resonant energy weapon’ as suggested below? If not, why is Turner attempting to ‘stir up the pot’?
I think he was as incredulous as myself that Lyn debunked someone else’s recounting of 1 fact and then writing a page or two of what it obviously means using circumstantial evidence.
Your credibility is less than zero, since you borrowed a picture from Wikipedia of a common protozoa infection in salmon and attached it to a Fukushima story. So pardon me if I think you’re full of carp (transposition intended). Your list of failures speaks for itself.
