Earlier this week, the Michigan State Police posted an image of their recent graduates to their Facebook account, saying: “Congratulations to the 15 Michigan State Police troopers who graduated from the Emergency Support Team 11th Basic School today.”
The image depicted troopers completely indistinguishable from the United States military, down to their uniforms and weapons.
President Barack Obama famously said “weapons of war have no place on our streets,” only slightly over a year ago, in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre. But apparently he didn’t believe that applied to the Michigan State Police literally training for war, wearing the uniforms of war and carrying the literal weapons of war on our streets.
Though we might shrug these sorts of militarized police tanks off as nothing, that alone clearly shows how far we’ve fallen into something of a “Soft Core Police State” in America via the process of incrementalism. History shows us that as free nations become complacent, they become vulnerable to manipulation. Most dictatorships rise gradually — a step at a time. Smooth talking politicians make each incremental step seem reasonable, because the masses are blind to the tides of change. The wisdom of Wendell Phillips fades away: “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” morehere
If this is a real image and true story, its not good.
