Who would take advice from the government on how to be a father?
The question I pose in the title is one I found myself asking on the drive home today when I was confronted with a propaganda billboard about taking the time out to be a proper father that advertised the website Fatherhood.gov.
Did you know there was such a thing? I didn’t until today.
A few clicks and I found out that Fatherhood.gov is the website for The National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse, which the site describes as, “a resource of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families’ (ACF) Office of Family Assistance (OFA)”.
The site goes on to explain:
The Claims Resolution Act of 2010 (CRA) re-authorized funding for the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (NRFC). The NRFC was initially funded through the Deficit Reduction Act (2005) for “the development, promotion, and distribution of a media campaign to encourage the appropriate involvement of parents in the life of any child and specifically the issue of responsible fatherhood, and the development of a national clearinghouse to assist States and communities in efforts to promote and support marriage and responsible fatherhood.”
That’s right. Our government wants to support marriage and responsible fatherhood…whatever the government thinks those things are.
Fathers can even visit Fatherhood.gov to sign The President’s Fatherhood Pledge, where they talk about the growing crisis of fatherlessness and then follow it by saying that, “President Obama grew up without his dad, and has said that being a father is the most important job he has.”
(It’s such an important job in fact, that twice Obama seemingly forgot he even had two daughters, accidentally referring to 10-year-old Sasha and 13-year-old Malia as his sons.)
But, again…what father out there is going to Fatherhood.gov to make promises to be a proper dad anyway?
According to Alexa.gov, a website ranking other websites the world over, Fatherhood.gov is the 35,320 most popular website…in Indonesia.
Then again at this point, I wouldn’t go to a government website for tips on keeping a bamboo plant alive, and those are really hard to kill even if you tried, even after months of neglect.
Let’s face it. Our government seemingly can’t even make a noodle salad without it degrading to the equivalent of a bunch of spoiled children having simultaneous mental breakdowns over not getting something they wanted at the toy store. America seems to float endlessly from one pathetic government scandal — one public screw job, or worse, one false flag — to the next.
Think about it. Is there anything…anything…that our ever-growing, ever-more-centralized government has touched that has justified the need for more government?
What about the people who grew up in our government? People like Nancy Pelosi, John McCain and Hillary Clinton or any of those career politicians? Have you seen how they turned out?
If there is an American man out there who has figured out the fundamental basics on how to successfully reproduce, it is inconceivable that there is any possible way he could then purposefully seek out the government’s advice on how to be a dad.
