Campy Ken Bennett: Making all the wrong moves

(Before It's News)

Term limited Secretary of State Ken Bennett is one of the pack of six running in the Republican primary for governor. He’s generally regarded as a low-key guy better known for strumming his guitar and making budget presentations using Kleenex boxes, than for the time he served in the state senate from 1998 – 2007.

He also gained attention for incidents surrounding verification of Obama’s birth certificate. Not nearly as much for the inquiry itself as for his inane follow-up apology as reported here on KTAR News.

Now, as if he isn’t busy enough running a statewide campaign financed by public money, he has jumped on the McBandwagon against Arizona’s conservative Attorney General Tom Horne, declaring the state should launch a probe into whether Horne violated state election laws —- allegations denied by Horne.

In another bizarre move earlier this year, seemingly calculated to lose conservative voters, Bennett had this to say about SB 1062 —- the Religious Freedom Restoration Act which strengthened protections in Arizona law to defend against religious discrimination. Bennett described the bill as “an unnecessary….divisive measure.” The bill was disappointingly vetoed by Gov. Jan Brewer after she caved to pressure from the homosexual lobby.

Even more curious is his odd invitation to supporters to “Join the Ken Bennett Camp.”

The word association is not the best for Bennett, whose camp counselor son was sentenced to jail time for sodomizing (the press called the brutal acts “brooming”) 18 middle school age campers with broomsticks, a flashlight and a cane. This is the report from the Arizona Daily Sun. This article details the civil lawsuits filed by the families of the young campers, who claim Bennett’s son got a sweetheart deal because of his father’s prominence.

“Camp” is a word Bennett should steer clear of. Ditto the governor’s race, which he is unlikely to win.
