Ferguson Turmoil Continues With Another Shooting, More Arrests

The ongoing face-off between police and protesters in and around Ferguson, Missouri continued on Tuesday, with tensions further kindled by reports of another police shooting and by more details about slain teenager Michael Brown.
President Obama sounded a note of empathy for “young men of color” who are “left behind and seen only as objects of fear” and called for calm as the National Guard made its presence known on the scene and Attorney General Eric Holder announced his plans to travel there on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s shooting occurred four miles away from where Brown had been shot on Aug. 9, according to the BBC:
US police say they have arrested 31 people during another night of angry protests in the town of Ferguson in the state of Missouri.
[...] On Tuesday, police shot and killed a knife-wielding man four miles (6.4km) from the site of Mr Brown’s killing.
Local police said witnesses reported the man behaving erratically, and that the man had come at two officers with the knife.
“The suspect turned toward officers, pulled out knife in an overhand grip, told officers to ‘shoot me now, kill me now,’” said St Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon announced the National Guard deployment on Monday, in addition to lifting a night-time curfew imposed on the weekend.
Meanwhile, the U.S. justice department conducted a third post-mortem examination of Michael Brown’s body Tuesday, following those performed by local officials and by pathologist Dr. Baden, hired by Brown’s family. Click here to read a detailed report about Dr. Baden’s findings.
