Missouri governor has declared state of emergency and set curfew in Ferguson suburb where a black teenager Michael Brown was shot dead by police last weekend, sparking week-long mass protests.

“The eyes of the world are watching. This is the test of whether a community, this community, any community, can break the cycle of fear, distrust and violence, and replace them with peace, strength and, ultimately, justice,” Governor Jay Nixon said in his speech at a church near Ferguson.

The curfew will be imposed from midnight to 5 am local time, according to Captain Ronald Johnson of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, who also spoke at the press conference, following Governor Jay Nixon.

As Governor Nixon told the people of Ferguson to sleep during the curfew, he was interrupted by a protester who yelled out “Sleep is not an option!” and “We want justice!”

Johnson also added that no tear gas or harsh tactics will be used to enforce the curfew, acknowledging that tear gas had been used against protesters early Saturday morning, but not on his orders.

“You saw people sitting in the street and they had the chance to get up,” he said. “And that’s how it’s going to continue.”

Johnson added that three officers were injured in clashes on Friday as some were trapped by the rioters in a parking lot. But no use of force was ordered by him, the captain said. “What we’re doing now is not who we are,” Johnson said amid shouts.

The Governor meanwhile said that he will not allow a few looters to endanger the community saying that “calm” is necessary to serve justice.

On Friday, following peaceful demonstrations during the day, a group of people stayed in the streets after midnight, provoking police and reportedly

The protests in St. Louis rural community continue despite the release of the name of the police officer, Darren Wilson, who fatally shot unarmed black teenager Michael Brown last Saturday. The tragedy has triggered violence in the town and vigils by thousands of people across the United States.

The governor assured people that there are dozens of FBI agents on the ground investigating the teenager’s murder. He also said that US Department of Justice is increasing its efforts in the shooting probe.

  • Ferguson and all the other State and Local police should not have surplus military uniforms, gear, vehicles and weapons of WAR. We have the National Guard for any major event. The police should not be play acting war soldier fantasies. They also should not be hiding their identity from the public any way, shape or form. Retrieve all those violent unsafe military equipment and send that military war gear to the Ukraine. Better yet, rent or sell that entire military surplus to the Ukrainians to help cover the initial cost that the taxpayer originally paid out.

We have too many uneducated corrupt violent psychopaths working in police departments across the U.S. They conduct profiling, racial bigotry, cultural bigotry, fashion bigotry, sexual bigotry, religious bigotry, political affiliation bigotry, socioeconomic status bigotry, etc. …and many use their job for criminal activity.

    Our president did good …
… To get the Mike Brown investigation underway by our FBI and our U.S. Department of Justice.

Before cops are hired their personalities should be tested for:
    • Psychopath tendencies.
    • Violent authoritative responsiveness.
    • Anxious eager behavior.
    • Drugs and alcohol abuse (and any other abuses); and should be drug tested often.
    • Manners – socially acceptable and respectful etiquette.

All police should also have a “real” four year college degree (too many police have no common sense or rational; and not intelligent enough to deal with the public). The police have to understand that their job falls under “hospitality” when dealing with the public.

All police should have excellent marksmanship shooting at a bull’s-eye target (police should not be allow to have machine guns that spray bullets aimlessly). Just because the bad guys have machine guns that spray bullets without direction; doesn’t give the police an excuse to use the same. Police should not use their gun for offense intent.

All police should have the latest video and audio equipment on their person and in their vehicles (to record any and all events) so there are no discrepancies, wrong doing and cover-ups.

Police should not have a mentality of a judge, jury and executioner. The people of the United States shouldn’t be paying for all this incompetent ineffectual security.

Anyone that kills another human being should be arrested, jailed and go through the normal legal process that is required. Just because you are a government employee (police) doesn’t afford you amnesty from the legal accountability. The police officer that murdered Mike Brown should be sitting in jail (Federal jail) during the investigation. Also the amount of bullets that were shot should have been determined the same day of the incident. If you have six bullets in the gun firing cylinder and then you open the cylinder after the shooting; you would have your answer without doubt about how many shots were fired that day; unless Darren Wilson reloaded the gun firing cylinder to continue to shoot.

Midnight until 5 a.m. curfew? … Businesses like McDonalds and Wal-Mart Supercenters are open 24 hours. Is the governor of Missouri going to subsidize all those businesses that lost money during the curfew that are open 24 hours? Doesn’t this remind you of the SUNDOWN TOWN law?

Do not violate the protestors civil rights of Freedom of Speech – Patrolman Ron Johnson continues to tell the protesters … “allowed” to speak … “allowed” to be heard. This is the comi-mentality of government employees; and the taxpayer is paying for all this. Let’s remind ourselves that We the People do not need a government employee’s permission to express ourselves.
