(Before It's News)

The USS Detroit, with a price tag of about $360 million, was christened and launched on Saturday. The littoral combat ship was literally dropped into the water.

It is the sixth ship to be named after the city in Michigan, is almost 400 feet long and boasts two Rolls-Royce MT30 36 MW gas turbines, two Colt-Pielstick diesel engines and four Rolls-Royce water jets.

The USS Detroit has a speed of 45 knots, or about 52 miles per hour, an endurance of approximately 21 days and can carry a crew of around 125.

She is expected to be deployed some time next year.
