A U.S. man wanted on a federal racketeering indictment handed down in 1997 was apprehended near Tijuana, Mexican authorities said.
Randy Mark Yager, 58, was detained Wednesday night in the seaside town of Playas de Rosarito, sources with the Baja California state police said.
Yager, an Indiana native, was the Chicago regional chief of the Outlaws motorcycle gang when he and 16 fellow members were indicted by a federal grand jury in 1997.
Prosecutors accuse him of robbery and of conspiracy to commit murder.
Yager was named to the U.S. Marshals’ list of 15 most-wanted fugitives in 2004.
The fugitive’s girlfriend, who was with him at the time of the arrest in Playas de Rosarito, fled the scene in an SUV and died when the vehicle flipped over as she was being chased by officers, state police said.
Yager was delivered to the Mexican immigration service, which in turn handed him over to U.S. law enforcement.
