Expanded Consciousness
“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment” – Lao Tzu
Someone has left a comment on the recent article that I wrote about “5 signs of an energy vampire” saying that I am “not a very enlightened person”. I am actually very thankful to that person since that comment got me thinking – what does it actually mean to be enlightened and what are the conditions that could characterize an enlightened person.
Throughout my life I’ve read many inspiring books, met many wise teachers and took various self-development courses (even started my own practice). One of the main goals for acquiring all that knowledge was to reach the state of enlightenment or at least know how to get there.
One of the best descriptions of a truly enlightened person I found in the teachings of Don Huan. He described them as the conditions of a solitary bird. There were only 5 conditions described in the books, however, it seems that the additional sixth one was missing.
The highest point is the experience of blissful ultimate Love. Some may characterize it as unconditional love, however, the highest point is beyond the term of unconditional love. The ultimate bliss is actually quite cold. It is like standing on the peak of the highest mountain and any movement will cause either fall into the abyss of the past or being swiped away by the avalanche of the future. The highest point is the state of loving the whole world, embracing the higher consciousness but at the same time taking responsibility for realizing your own potential in the way it was intended by Nature.
