Hollywood films often entertain us with the different kinds of movies that they offer to the audiences. Drama, comedy, fairytales, love story, action and even the animated films have made different impacts in our lives. Stories about warfare, impossible love stories, history, and about the realities of life are being portrayed in every film which provides us temporary separation from the hustles and bustles of everyday life. And if you want to rest your mind from the stresses of politics and debates in the Senate, why not take your time to relax, pick a presidential film and have some popcorn and a bottle of beer to complete the movie experience.

10. Dr. Strangelove 

Dr. Strangelove is British-American comedy film release in 1964 that features an irrational USAF general who orders a first strike nuclear attack on the Soviet Union. Peter Sellers portrayed multiple characters including President MerkinMuffley, Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, and Dr. Strangelove. Group Captain Mandrake is a British RAF exchange officer; President Muffley is the American President and Commander-in-Chief; Dr. Strangelove is the wheelchair-bound nuclear war expert and a former Nazi. Funny lines include, “Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here. This is the war room!”

 

9. Air Force One

Air Force One is a 1997 American film with Harrison Ford as President James Marshall. When the joint forces of American and Russian military led to the capture of General Ivan Radek, Moscow celebrated and President Marshall vowed to never negotiate with terrorists. When the first family boarded Air Force One together with their Cabinet and advisors and Secret Service agent to return to the United States, they got hijacked by Radek loyalists. President Marshall is war veteran and did everything to save the people onboard his plane. He contacted the White House telling them not to make any negotiations with the terrorists. In the end, Radek was killed; Marshall killed the terrorists, evacuated his family and the rest of the passengers to safety, while he fought with Gibbs, and reunited with his family.

 

8. The American President

This 1995 romantic comedy-drama film featured Michael Douglas as President Andrew Shepherd who is a widower and pursued a relationship with environmental activist Sydney Ellen Wade. When the President falls in love, the media and his counterparts will do anything to destroy each other’s reputation to the masses. With political issues and the relationship put into chaos, Shepherd find ways to win his reputation back, get the trust of the people and reconciled with Wade.

 

7. Thirteen Days

When U-2 surveillance photos reveal that the Soviet Union is going to place missiles with nuclear weapons in Cuba, President John F. Kennedy (Bruce Greenwood) is determined to show that his country does not allow a missile threat. In order to prevent an act of war, he tried to find better solutions to settle the dispute, preserve his country, and maintain the peace and order between the US and Cuba, and most of all, to protect his countrymen.

 

6. Lincoln

This 2012 movie is about the life of President Abraham Lincoln in his efforts to have the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution passed by US House of Representatives. Daniel Day-Lewis played the character of Lincoln where he made a great performance with his role. His kindness in his soft-spoken voice, the sparkle in his eye, and the passion in his speeches ended the slavery and racial discrimination that America was facing during his time.
