Amid tensions between the United States Navy and the People’s Liberation Army Navy over the disputed waters of the Spratly islands, China has begun to send maritime surveillance vessels to the waters off the coast of Hawaii as a countermeasure against the US activities in the South China Sea, reports Tokyo-based Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
The defense white paper also suggested that People’s Liberation Army should devote more resources for the buildup of naval forces instead of ground forces. It also stated that China must prepare for a potential conflict with the United States in the South China Sea. While more maritime surveillance vessels are being deployed to Hawaiian waters to monitor the activities of the US Pacific Fleet, China began the constructions of two lighthouses in the Spratly islands.
Things are getting hot down there. Chinese warships just fired on a Philippine fishing vessel near the Spratley’s. Now they are sitting off the coast of the state of Hawaii. Makes sense, we put ships in their backyard so why wouldn’t they do the same.
