Officer Risks Career By Becoming the Voice of Reason

A Georgia police officer identified as Billie Ray Fields recently placed his career in law enforcement in jeopardy by uploading a video to YouTube and becoming the voice of reason in the name of “truth and justice”.  His video was made in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement and calls out those officers that hide behind the “Blue Wall of Silence” and condemning those officers that abuse their power under color of the law.

The 5 year veteran of the police force voices his support for these corrupt officers being held accountable for their actions.  He encourages others to continue to go out and record these officers to keep the spotlight on those that wish to do harm to citizens.  Officer Fields does mention that he does not support the violence and looting that has taken place in the movement and that it has to stop.

This officer saluted those officers that go out on the job everyday and do the right thing.  He had strong words for those that do not, “To the bad cops out there, man, go cut yourself and jump in the ocean for me.”

The nation needs more police officers like Billie Ray Fields.  This man spoke the truth regardless of any backlash he may face from his peers on the force.  He recognizes the problems that have chipped away at the trust that the public has for police officer in this day and age.  His words demonstrate to bravery by standing by his beliefs and speaking up about what he sees with his own eyes while on the job.

Officer Fields has taken that first step in recognizing the problem and speaking up.  It’s now up to everyone to unite for the common goal of police accountability to make these changes come to fruition.

Officer Billie Ray Fields, I salute you for having the courage to speak up.
