ORANGE COUNTY, TEXAS — While Hollywood makes millions teaching us not to mess with giant lizards, one man met an unfortunate end after underestimating a massive alligator at a southeast Texas marina.
Tommie Woodward, 28, defied a warning sign about alligators in the water and decided to take a late-night swim in the bayou. The friend Woodward had been drinking with saw an alligator in the water and decided to stay out of the water, urging him to do the same.
Rather than heed the warning, Woodward reportedly said “F*#! the alligators!” and jumped into the bayou. He was almost immediately attacked by the alligator.
Woodward’s body was later fished out of the water by police officers in a boat. Woodward had puncture marks on upper right shoulder, and his left arm as well as his elbow had received severe injuries.
Employees at the marina recently erected a sign warning against swimming in the water after the owner of the marina spotted an 11-foot alligator in the water.
