(Before It's News)

8348289_GThe details on the story are still unclear but what is known is that Thomas Crutcher is an Earle, Arkansas police officer who was off duty last night when he shot another man. The shooting took place at the Masonic Lodge in Memphis, which is about 30 minutes from Earle, after Crutcher and his victim go into an altercation. According to FOX 6 in Memphis:

An off-duty Region 8 police officer was arrested early Saturday morning after being accused of shooting a man in downtown Memphis.

According to our sister station, WMC, Thomas Crutcher, 31, is an officer with the Earle Police Department and is under investigation for that shooting.

The shooting happened at the Masonic Lodge and began with two men arguing.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, he was arrested at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday and was released the same day on a $75,000 fine.

He is facing charges for aggravated assault.

Crutcher is expected to be in court Monday at 8:30 a.m.

The victim was taken to Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Again, the details are unclear at this time and we’ll keep you posted as they develop. Maybe this was a case of self defense or an actual justifiable shooting, if Crutcher was being attacked – or force initiated against him. Or there could be more to the story that would answer why a cop was 30 miles away from his home, on the third story of a Masonic Lodge and engaged in an altercation that required him to discharge his weapon.

Also, if you or I had been place in the same situation you can bet your life that we wouldn’t be bailing out within 24 hours after shooting someone. Only the police get that kind of courtesy, the rest of us would sit in jail until our trial played out. At which time we’d be convicted and sentenced to several years in a cage, even if self defense. I find this story to be rather interesting, it has all the makings of a corrupt cop story or the simplicity of drunken cops doing what drunken cops do.
