(Before It's News)

DW Ulsterman

I continue to receive messages from readers wanting my views on this morning’s tragic news of two young local news reporters being shot and killed by what appears to have been a disgruntled former employee of the news station they worked for. What makes the story more shocking is the first-person video of the shooting that accompanies it.

I won’t be linking to that video here.

What I will take a moment for is outlining the racial component of the shooting because while the gunman appears to be a deeply disturbed and emotionally unstable individual, his actions are a reflection of the racial divide that has been purposely perpetrated within this country in recent years by both media and politicians.

Let me explain…

ABOVE: Alison Parker, 24 and Adam Ward, 27 were shot and killed by suspected gunman, Vester Lee Flanagan, 41 who just breaking news reports indicate was captured by law enforcement after Mr. Flanagan sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Parker and Ward were white. Mr. Flanagan is black.

I mention the race of the victims and their alleged assailant for one reason – Vester Flanagan reportedly claimed racism was a primary motivator for the shooting attack. More specifically, current media reports suggest Flanagan accused Parker of making racist comments.

So, he shot both her and Ward on live television. (He also shot and wounded Vicki Gardner, the woman being interviewed at the time of the attack. Gardner is also white.)

Vester Flanagan used the issue of race to justify the killing of two white people and the attempted killing of a third. Regardless of his mental/emotional capacities, or lack thereof, that use of the proverbial “race card” to justify even the most extreme example of violence cannot be ignored.

It is the same animosity-filled environment radical Islamist groups like ISIS use to recruit operatives willing to kill and die in the name of Allah, and it is an environment that has been largely created and promoted by powerful socio-political forces. People are told time and time again their own unhappiness and dissatisfaction are not their fault but the fault of others different from them – a fault that should not go unpunished.  It is the clarion call of figures like Al Sharpton, Chris Mathews, and yes, Barack Obama.

Week after week, month after month, and year after year Americans have been told by their self-appointed betters that this is a nation of racists. The black communities destroying themselves in Ferguson, Baltimore, Chicago, and elsewhere are told by these same figures they are justified in doing so, and within that justification is the right for those same people to hate those they are told are their oppressors. It is the same tactic utilized by Hitler to justify what was done to the Jews. It is the same tactic utilized by all oppressive regimes throughout human history, that of divide and conqueror.
