Officer Nicholas Mark Thompson
How many ‘second chances’ should a police officer get? How many times must he be arrested before the thin blue line breaks and common sense prevails? For a Suffolk Police officer accused of abduction and strangulation, we may never find out.
Officer Nicholas Mark Thompson was arrested last year for holding his police-issued service weapon to his wife’s head and threatening to ‘blow her brains’ out. In total, he faced disciplinary hearings for TWO separate incidents related to threatening to kill people with his weapon. However, he is still on the police force.
That brings us to the present. Now, the same officer has been arrested once again. This time, he faces several felony and misdemeanor charges of abduction, strangulation, domestic assault, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. So far, the victim’s identity has yet to be released. However, considering his history of assaulting his wife, combined with the domestic assault charge, it’s probably safe to say that his latest victim is again his wife.
Regardless, how many times does Officer Thompson need to be arrested before he is fired? Should the police department wait until after he kills his wife? How many employers, other than the police, do you know of that will keep a dangerous psychopath employed after multiple felony charges related to violent behavior?
Please call the Suffolk Police Department and express your feelings. I have also included the link to their Facebook page for you to leave comments on.
