Video Shows Police SGT Fail Sobriety Tests After Driving 100 MPH

Video showing a Rockford, MI, police SGT failing multiple sobriety tests has been released to the public. In the video, you can see Kent County Sheriff’s Deputy Mario Morey witnessing the speeding Aaron Michael Sawyer zipping by on his motorcycle. Deputy Morey stated that SGT was traveling at 100 mph.

He was later arrested after failing multiple sobriety tests. His breathalyzer results shows a blood alcohol content of .17, more than twice the legal limit.

SGT Sawyer received special treatment on his conviction and sentencing, something that isn’t usually afforded to the average citizen. SGT Sawyer was initially charged under the state’s “super drunk law” that increases the misdemeanor penalty from 93 days in jail to 180 It also increases fines from $100 to $500 for the traditional charge to $200 to $700.

Sawyer was allowed to plead guilty to a ‘normal’ charge drunk driving as a first offender, avoiding the enhanced penalties, despite the fact he was twice the legal limit and driving in excess of 100 mph.

SGT Sawyer has been suspended from the Rockford Police Department without pay. His suspension will most likely end, once his driver’s license is reinstated in 6 months. However, SGT Sawyer can apply to have in license reinstated by the state, after waiting only 30 days.

Unfortunately, police often receive special treatment, resulting in double-standards when applying the law. Take Holly Gonyeau, for example. She was not charged in the death of a cyclist, even though she was speeding and drunk. She received special treatment simply because she was married to a deputy. You can read that story below.
