NASA’s SDO catches a double eclipse
NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory sees dozens of Earth eclipses and several lunar transits each year. On September 13, 2015, it saw the two happening at once.

This past Sunday (September 13, 2015) was a partial eclipse of the sun as seen from parts of South Africa and Antarctica. At the same time, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) – a satellite in geosynchronous orbit around Earth – caught a rare double eclipse of the sun, first by Earth and then by the moon. NASA said that SDO sees dozens of Earth eclipses and several lunar transits each year from its vantage point in space. This is the first time it has seen two happening at once! NASA explained:

I guess too few people are scientifically literate today. I can’t believe what is being said about this “double eclipse”.
The only thing that saw the earth and moon pass in front of the sun was a satellite – put there by us. There was no event…you can move a satellite or probe into position to make this sort of photo-op occur hundreds of times per year if you want. A true astronomical eclipse occurs when a real heavenly body causes a shadow to be cast on another heavenly body. A camera in space on a satellite is not a heavenly body. Does anyone understand the absurdity and ignorance of this non-event?
