(Before It's News)

A California man was indicted for gun and explosive possession by a felon, the Justice Department announced Nov. 13.

Kenneth William Kirkland, 47, of California City, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing a destructive device and explosives, and failing to register a destructive device.

According to the indictment, authorities found Kirkland in possession of three rifles — a Double Star Corp STAR-15 rifle, a Russian M44 rifle, and a Winchester 94 — a destructive device, and a bomb.

He also did not register the destructive device nor the explosives in the National Firearms Act registry, the indictment says.

Kirkland, who was convicted of burglary in June 1993, was arrested Oct. 13 by California City police for the weapons possession. He was booked into the Kern County Detention Center on $1.4 million bond.

His court date is Nov. 24. If convicted, Kirkland faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison and a $260,000 fine.
