Not Just Guns: Five People Injured in Mass Stabbing at California Campus
The media loves to hype mass shootings as one of the main reasons for more gun control as if mass shootings happen in this country every other five minutes. Usually the talking heads don’t point out that these mass shootings tend to happen in gun-free zones where lawful gun owners aren’t allowed to carry their weapon to protect themselves and others. The basic truth that criminals don’t follow laws, including gun laws, which is what makes them criminals, is also never really mentioned.
This morning just before 8 a.m., a male student began stabbing people in a busy commons area out in front of a school building at the UC Merced campus. Five people were stabbed in the attack, four of which were students. Two people had to be airlifted to the hospital.
The knife-wielding assailant was later shot and killed by police on a pedestrian bridge between the parking lot to classes and the dining area.
More gun laws would not have stopped this man’s attack, unless those laws were to allow a citizen with the proper permits to legally carry a gun on campus. Schools in Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah, Texas and Wisconsin allow firearms to be legally carried on their campuses. More schools are considering it.
