Shrimp, Slavery And Ethics

A recent AP investigation revealed the horrendous working conditions of slaves in the shrimp industry in Thailand. A wide array of supermarkets and restaurants sell the shrimp peeled by migrant workers held against their will, including Whole Foods, Safeway, Red Lobster, and Olive Garden. It also appears in some pet foods. Consumers are urged to look for the Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification on seafood, and to demand ethical, sustainable, and legal shrimp from sellers.
