Thousands of homes in Scotland and Northern Ireland are without power and there are fears of fresh flooding in the north of England, with people in some areas urged to evacuate their homes.

A severe flood warning (possible danger to life) has been issued for Whitesands in Dumfries. Across Scotland there are over 90 flood warnings and 14 alerts.

It was followed by Cluanie Inn, Ross and Cromarty (62.2mm), and Braemar in Aberdeenshire (58.8mm).

Emergency power teams worked through Tuesday night and into Wednesday to restore electricity to about 20,000 homes and businesses after trees came down on power lines.
Repairs are continuing, but about 300 properties are still without power.

More than 1,400 properties were left without power on Wednesday morning after Storm Frank hit Wales but the majority have now been reconnected.
In Carmarthenshire, 793 homes were cut off along with 272 in Pembrokeshire, 207 in Rhondda Cynon Taff and 150 in Swansea.
Most areas have power back including parts of Ceredigion and Newport.
Localised flooding has been reported in Pontypool, Cowbridge and Llanishen in Cardiff, as well as on the M4.
The weather warning from the Met Office is for rain and wind of up to 70mph.
ENGLAND
Storm Frank
Devon and Cornwall Police said water had reached the dashboard of the vehicle when a member of public helped free them.
In York, where the Foss Barrier is now operational following emergency work, police are investigating reports of burglaries at two flood-hit properties.
North Yorkshire Police Acting Superintendent Mark Grange said: “It is impossible to comprehend why anyone would want to bring further suffering to those who are already in a very vulnerable situation.”
