Dear stone: the truth is: the feds purchased the ranches that were “taken” from the ranchers because said ranchers had overgrazed said lands so much the already marginal grazing lands were no longer productive. The feds then bought out said ranches to end their slow spiral into bankruptcy court. Now, this buyout has become a cause celeb amongst the radicals who think that it’s apparently just fine to graze their cattle on public property–that means you and me–for free, when other rangers pay. So, I must ask, why should a bunch of Utah yahoos be dictating what Oregonians do or want to do? Isn’t that over-reach on the part of these Utah usurpers of local government control?
Re: imprisoning ranchers: said ranchers imprisoned broke the law when, in the midst of illegally shooting deer on public property, they set fire to said public property to probably cover their tracks, then tried to say it was a mistake, that they only meant to burn their own land. So, a judge sentenced them to a light sentence, only to re-sentence them because federal law says: burn public land, and go to jail 5 years. So, seems like the yahoos have burned themselves into a corner here: Calling for everyone to be law-abiding, but apparently only abiding by the laws they want to abide by.
