A look at the OSS-era High Standard HDM of World War II (VIDEO)
While today we all go ga-ga for the SilencerCo Maxim 9, in WWII the commandos of the Office of Strategic Services used their own hushed up .22LR pistol.
The OSS was the precursor to today’s CIA and their Jedburgh units parachuted “somewhere into German-occupied France” and elsewhere to make friends and influence people and, as part of their arms, some were issued the integrally suppressed High Standard HDM. Capable of about 150 rounds before it had to be repacked, it was a forerunner of today’s more efficient suppressors.
And in the above video from the National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia, NRA News producer John Popp and Andrew Dalton take an in-depth look at one of the few surviving examples of these quiet special weapons.
