(Before It's News)

Woman choosing cake or fruitA new study has found in an effort to improve their diet people will over consume foods labeled “healthy.” The findings suggest that people will have larger portions, eat more and feel less full when they eat foods portrayed as healthy. Study author Jacob Suher said, “It’s quite ironic. The more we put out foods that are labeled healthy, we could be abetting the obesity epidemic rather than combatting it.”

The reasoning to the overeating of healthy foods is that people believe healthy foods to be less filling and so they eat more of it. The researchers found that this effect could be combated if people were told that healthy foods were also nourishing and so they would not need to eat as much. Using the term nourishing implies that the food is filling.
