Despite the majority of Europeans and their ELECTED leaders opposing it, Brussels continues to implement Washington DC and the City of London’s foreign policy objectives

While actual European citizens and their elected leaders (not in Brussels) grow tired and continue to suffer economically from the EU’s seemingly endless rounds of anti-Russian sanctions, globalist technocrats from the EU super star chamber in Brussels keep towing the US State Department line of a policy of “isolation and containment” for Russia.
The EU have imposed rolling sanctions against Russia’s financial services sector, and also energy and defence-related industries.
Why is Russia being targeted by Europe? We’re told it’s because of the “annexation” of Crimea in 2014, and also because of “Russia’s role” in the Ukraine crisis (a crisis planned and funded by the EU and the US).
What no member of the mainstream press, much less any political leader, will ever point out is that EU sanctions came into effect directly on the back of the downing of Flight MH17 over the Donbass in eastern Ukraine in July of 2014. Both the US and European leaders rushed to apportion blame on Moscow for this incident even though there was never any evidence to back such sensational claims. To date, there is still no evidence which implicates Russia in that air disaster, however, there is a very strong case which demonstrated how the US-NATO and EU-backed regime in Kiev played a central role in that plane crash.
At a time when the EU is already dealing with a potential political insurgency over the Russian sanctions issue, Brussels is simply ignoring calls from prominent political leaders within leading member states – to end anti-Russian sanctions and get back to normal business and international trade across Europe and Eurasia.
The Financial Times reports:
“Diplomats had feared the move would spark a major political battle between states such as Hungary, Greece and Italy, which favour a rethink on sanctions, and the more hawkish states, including Poland and the Baltic countries, which want the regime to continue.
But officials in Brussels say the diplomatic path for the decision, which could come within the next fortnight, has been cleared after the more dovish states postponed their demands for a big rethink on the sanctions until a summit of EU leaders set for December.”
Flying in the face of president François Hollande’s support for a six-month rollover, significant opposition is being led by France whose Senate already passed a non-binding resolution this week which calls for the “gradually and partially” lifting of sanctions against Russia.
In addition to French businesses that have been hit particularly hard by the US-led EU sanctions policy, Italy has also suffered greatly from anti-Russian sanctions. Back in late 2015, 21WIRE covered this Italian revolt which was brewing at the time and has gained momentum since.
It may take another 6 months, but the writing is on wall: unless another false flag like MH17 materializes in October or November, the US-NATO-EU plan to collectively punish both European and Russian trade will have zero traction.
While Europe seems to be moving towards normalizing relations with Russia, behind their backs the US-NATO Axis continues to stir up instability in the Ukraine by nature of its unflagging support for Kiev and turning a convenient blind eye to the policy of suffocation that Kiev has enacted against its Russian-speaking population in the east. Still, some European leaders are none the wise. The FT adds here:
“Germany, France, Italy and the UK paved the way for a rollover decision at the G7 summit last month, with leaders concluding they had little choice because of the patchy implementation of the Minsk accord.”
