Constitution Day: “Securing the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our Posterity”

Founders even included the “pursuit of happiness”

Today, September 17, is Constitution Day.  How fortunate we Americans are to be able to celebrate the day 229 years ago when the Framers of the U.S. Constitution finished their work in Philadelphia — and sent the marvelous document they’d just completed out to the states for ratification.

Reflecting a vision of liberty through limited government that the Founders had first set forth 11 years earlier in the Declaration of Independence, “We the People,” through that compact, sought “to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the General Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”

Consider these inspiring words: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Take time to acquaint yourself with the detailed Charters of Freedom, with links to the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights and more.  Be sure to read about the Power of the Courts.

Then make a point to discuss the Constitution with your kids or grandchildren. The neighbor kids might appreciate hearing about our magnificent  founding documents. There’s a good chance none of them are learning this in today’s public schools, where liberal concepts of moral relativism and the disputed “science” of climate change get preferential treatment.
