A Pennsylvania state trooper wounded during an ambush attack in September 2014 plans to sue the alleged shooter and his family.

The Scranton Times-Tribune reports local attorney Vincent Cimini filed a writ of summons for Trooper Alex T. Douglass in Monroe County Court last month indicating his intent to sue alleged shooter Eric Frein and his parents.

Frein opened fire on Douglass and Corporal Bryon K. Dickson II outside the Blooming Grove Township barracks on Sept. 12, 2014, killing Dickson and shattering Douglass’s hip and tearing his intestinal track. The attack launched a 48-day manhunt through the Pocono Mountain region of eastern Pennsylvania until federal authorities cornered Frein in an abandoned airplane hangar.

He has plead not guilty and prosecutors in Pike County are seeking the death penalty.

The Allentown Morning Call reports Douglass has undergone 17 surgeries so far and has spent nine months “in and out of the hospital.”
