(Before It's News)

The U.S House of Representatives approved a resolution Thursday to overturn Obama-era regulations on wildlife management.

The resolution, H.J. Res. 69,  passed on a 225 to 193 vote, nullifying an Obama administration rule issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that prohibited Alaska’s Board of Game from using predator control on National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska, unless “necessary to meet refuge purposes, federal laws or Service policy, and is based on sound science and in response to a conservation concern.”

Chris Cox, executive director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action, hailed the resolution, saying that it “puts an end to the Obama administration’s last minute attack on outdoorsmen.”

Cox continued: “Alaskans know best how to manage their wildlife. By relying on sound science for their unique conservation and management decisions, the proud outdoor heritage of Alaska will be preserved for generations to come.”

The Washington Post reports many environmental activists were outraged, arguing the resolution will allow unfair hunting practices to take bears, wolves and other predators so that other game populations become artificially inflated. The opponents included Jamie Rappaport Clark, president of the Defenders of Wildlife.

“Is running roughshod over public lands and targeting mother bears and wolves and their young on lands specifically set aside as wildlife refuges really a priority for legislators given the many challenges facing our country?” Clark said in a statement.

Alaskan Rep. Don Young, sponsor of the resolution, accused the Obama administration of “governing by interest groups” and argued lawmakers should prioritize the people of Alaska over the concerns of animal welfare groups.

When Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia defended the Obama-era regulation, Young said “I’m speaking for the people of my state, not the people of Virginia.”

The resolution will now head to President Donald Trump’s desk for signature.

  • I have lived in Alaska since it was still a Territory and these so call environmentalists don’t know what they are talking about, Jamie Rappaport Clark is a blow hole he has no idea of what it is like to live in a wilderness state. We protect or game here from poachers, indiscriminate trappers and to be honest you blame the wrong group for killing off the game. Go through the news over the last 20 years and read about the natives who indiscriminately killed a small herd of caribou just to leave them lay waisted. Then there were the 50 head of walrus the natives killed leaving all the carcusses taking only the ivory. There is a cannery down by Homer that sits idle with a fish hatchery that take about a million pink salmon only to remove the eggs and sperm for regeneration of the hatchery then the million salmon are dumped, owned by the natives. There is another one in Valdez that hatchery take 2 million pinks each year just for the eggs and sperm and those 2 million salmon carcasses are also dumped. Any new roads that would relieve the pressure on the few existing places for the private person to fish have been blocked by these environmentalist outsiders who create the areas that have been reduced in fish and shell fish numbers. Then there are the trollers just outside the Alaska’s water boundaries that net everything they can take from our approaching fish into Alaska and take it to Asia. So don’t tell me that Jamie Rappaport Clark has the answers, he is an idiot only out there as an activist who doesn’t care about the people only that those chosen few “greenies” are allowed to go where the rest of us are no longer permitted. Do you remember what “Public Lands” were? Who are the “Public” that use to be “We the people” but the socialist liberal communist democraps have taken that away from the Constitution and are all called federal lands. Remember those people who work for the federal government are our “Public Servants” nothing more. My last thought is Alaska should never have become a state and should have become it’s own country which is studded with our wealth.
