In response to the establishment media’s contrived ‘fake news’ crisis designed to marginalise independent and alternative media sources of news and analysis, 21WIRE ran its own #FakeNewsWeek campaign in February – exposing the government and the mainstream media as the real purveyors of ‘fake news’ throughout modern history. Following on from this, we decided to take advantage of March Madness, by running our own Fake News tournament in order find out who our readers and listeners feel is the top mainstream or establishment fake news outlet. In our initial final 8 preliminary competition, we included TV networks, newspapers, and also some government agencies, who themselves also major players in the fake news and propaganda game.
We have a Final Four! Out of the rigorous State-Run Region, broadcast stalwarts CNN and BBC pulled through with impressive wins on their side of the bracket. In the Deep State Regionals, New York Times won the battle of the ‘papers of record’ against a tough Washington Post. In the other Deep State contest, the CIA edged out the US State Dept in a tense fake news showdown between the two government agencies.
Unfortunately, losers Channel 4, Washington Post, and NBC/MSNBC will have an early spring break after being eliminated in a blistering quarter final round.
NOTE: This year’s leading Fake News honorable mentioned: TIME Magazine, the Daily Beast, VICE News, CBC and France 24.
In addition to the Fake News Final Four, we have also be nominated a list of finalists for the top fake news journalist in Mainstream Media. The winner will receive the first annual Horace Greeley Award for Most Outstanding Fake News Journalist.
Stay tuned to this week’s SUNDAY WIRE SHOW as we breakdown the Final Four with color commentary and analysis from British oddsmaker Basil Valentine, and ACR Boiler Room’s own Hesher.
