We’re constantly adding new options to make it easier for members and friends to be a part of the ABA community. Here are two we’d like to share.
Responding to overwhelming demand, the American Birding Association has created two new Facebook groups: “What’s This Bird?” and “ABA Birds & Birding”.
“What’s This Bird?” is very simple and straightforward. If you have a picture of a bird that you can’t identify, or just want some help with, post it—and we’ll help you identify it. If you’re regularly find yourself taking photos of birds you would like help identifying, or you feel your expertise is well-served by helping to identify birds, be they relatively easy or rather difficult, come on over.
We all love to go birding and take pictures of birds. “ABA Birds & Birding” is the place to share your photos and birding stories. This is a way to pull out the photo-sharing and field report aspects from the original ABA group, which will now be focused more on general bird discussion.
We fully understand that Facebook is not everybody’s idea of a great time. And we will continue to provide discussion elsewhere, notably here, for those who prefer not to partake. But if you are already there, please click on over and join the new groups. As always, we can’t wait to hear from you!

And second, with a full events calender and an office that spans the entire continent, ABA staff are almost always doing something bird-related. Whether it’s with the ABA or with out many local organizations, we’re birders out birding, speaking at bird clubs, leading field trips, and staying involved with a whole host of other things too
In an attempt to keep members apprised with our many programs and events, we’ve created an ABA Calender. You can find it on the home page in the upper right corner. Currently, we’ve only got upcoming events up there, but we’ll be filling it up soon. So the next time your local bird club is hosting a talk or a bird walk by an ABA staff member, or an event at which the ABA will have a presence, we’ll let you know.
