Detailed ethological data show that human exceptionalism reigns uncontested in the arena of within species violence. We're living in the anthropocene, characterized by incredibly destructive anomie, and it's about time we make this epoch the “compassionocene” and stop blaming our violent behavior on other animals and accepting it as an inevitable evolutionary endpoint.
