John DeSalvo sent us several images to accompany his appearance on the 5/10/12 show discussing his work researching crystal skulls
This is the first alleged ancient crystal skull (Skull #1) which I obtained from a research colleague in China about ten years ago. It is not life size, but smaller, about the size of an orange. This skull has been subject, as far as I know, to the most scientific testing than any other known crystal skull. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) were done at the University of Minnesota – Duluth. The results were submitted to several other SEM/EDS experts and directors at major universities in the US and Canada for their analysis.
Not one has indicated that they can detect any modern equipment or processes used in its carving. The strange red pigment covering it has been analyzed and will be discussed during the program tonight. Psychometry has also been done on it by some of the most talented psychics in the country and they all independently stated that this skull appears to be very ancient. Unfortunately, there is no documentation of its past history.
This is the second alleged ancient crystal skull which I obtained about 6 months ago. It is a life size quartz crystal skull and weighs about 7 pounds. The previous owner told me it was brought back from China about 15 years ago by the well known Argentinean anthropologist, Dr. Gustavo Martinez. I brought it to the American Petrographic Services lab in St. Paul for analysis. It was studied using a digital computerized microscope. The conclusion was that there was no indication of it being a modern carving or production but they could not give me any indication of its age. More studies need to be done on this skull including SEM/EDS studies.
Fortunately, the small crystal skull could fit inside the vacuum chamber of the Scanning Electron Microscope. Here the manager of the lab is positioning the skull and once the chamber is sealed, the air is pumped out so there will be a complete vacuum inside and the electron beam will be able to scan it directly without hitting air molecules. This is a great advantage over studying large crystal skulls that cannot fit into the vacuum chamber. For those, moulds have to be made and then the moulds scanned inside the vacuum chamber. Also, EDS studies cannot be done on the larger skulls.
This is the SEM/EDS display of the small crystal skull under study. On the left monitor we can scan surface areas in real time and magnify areas of interest. On the left is the EDS display. This shows the elemental composition of the areas of the surface we are looking, i.e. the atoms that are present. As we scan specific areas of the skull the elemental composition of that area can be determined.
This is one of the areas (the skull surface) of the large sized crystal skull that was studied at the American Petrographic Services. The computerized digital microscope allows 3-D displays of the surface observed. A scale could be superimposed and it could be rotated in 3-D, a great tool for analyzing the object under study.
The computerized digital microscope could also color code the 3-D data and allow great analysis of each area under study. This is the area in illustration 5.
