Bullet points for gun advocates

(Before It's News)

I try to view high profile issues based on a journalistic principle that is rarely adhered to now a days . That being : Take my personal views out of any argument and only exam the issue as , ” What is best for the majority ” , or what I like to call , ” The human Agenda ” .

I am former US Army infantry trained , and trained well with firearms , however I do not own a weapon . But I support the rights of those who do .

Thats personal , and to live by my own principles , None of that matters , unless it fits into whats best for the people . This topic , when viewed truthfully , and evaluated as to what is best for , ” The people ” , You would have to come to the conclusion that , ” It is not a good plan to disarm the people “  REPEAT” It is not a good plan to disarm the people “  ………

The focus of the opposition towards this issue is prominetly agenda driven . It is all about the Guns themselves , and a push to change a policy . That is another fundamental error on our part to focus so much energy , and so much time on a manifestation of the real underlying issue vs. the issue itself , ” Mental health “

One bullet point stands out for me touted by Jessy Ventura on Pierce Morgan . He compared a car to a gun . Those who did not see this interview , the basics of it was , If you take guns from the people because a few bad guys use them to kill , then why don’t we take cars from people , Each year approximately 16,000 are killed in alcohol related crashes. Jessy went on to explain that , “wouldn’t that make a car a deadly weapon” , when he was abruptly interrupted and the focus changed .

It’s alcoholism that kills 16,000 people a year .

the following is taken from Wikipedia , so I am sure with more research , the numbers would vary .

In 2009, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 66.9% of all homicides in the United States were perpetrated using a firearm.[5] There were 52,447 deliberate and 23,237 accidental non-fatal gunshot injuries in the United States during 2000.[6] Two-thirds of all gun-related deaths in the United States are suicides. Of the 30,470 firearm-related deaths in the United States in 2010, 19,392 (63.6%) were suicide deaths, and 11,078 (36.4%) homicide deaths.[7]

So in terms of actual homicides , according to this stat , cars are indeed deadlier than guns .

That would tell me , It is a mental health issue , along with social issues , because those who are not involved in drug trafficking , gang violence stricken with trauma issues , or just plain in need of being locked away from society etc. , are not using their guns for crimes . That is a massive statistic I will bet .

this statistic I found at

http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/18/15977143-gun-control-offers-no-cure-all-in-america?lite

How many guns do Americans own?
According to the Congressional Research Service, in 2009 there were an estimated 310 million firearms in the United States (not including weapons on military bases), of which 114 million were handguns, 110 million were rifles, and 86 million were shotguns. The current population of the United States, according to the Census, is around 314 million.

WOW  !

This next stat is from

http://www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/mary-kate-cary/2013/01/18/the-gop-should-align-with-gun-owners-not-the-nra

The President’s new push for gun control presents an opportunity for Republicans to start rebranding themselves and maybe even win back some of the women’s vote. According to the latest polling by Pew Research, support for gun control is lower today than it was when President Obama first came into office. The number of Americans who said it was more important to control gun ownership than to protect gun rights has dropped from 58 percent in April 2008 to only 49 percent today. Meanwhile, those who would rather protect the rights of gun owners has grown from 37 percent in 2008 to 46 percent today. Even in the wake of Newtown, enacting gun control is not a slam dunk.

In conclusion , this issue needs to be viewed for what it is , not for how an agenda would force it to be perceived . Take advantage of the main stream demographic , when offered a platform , to speak to them with facts , stats etc. Don’t just use the platform to yell at the host , make threats and act childish . Winning hearts and minds of those who are in support of stricter control or those who are on the fence should be the focus . With that said , it should be understood as a marketing strategy , branding , selling a product , etc.
