Veterans Tell Their Side: Is The VA System REALLY Getting Better? These vets’ testimonies speak for themselves. PLEASE do not be afraid to speak up. This is just the tip of the tip of the iceberg.
The VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida was a bad experience for me. I went in through the ER with a swollen toe. My name was called and I was seen by a different doctor who began asking if if I had a history of a heart condition. He then asked me about the rash on my back. I then told him that I think he may have me confused with someone else. Sure enough they did.
THE WHOLE VA SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE HAULED OVER by a Bull Dozer. It is that bad.
I am a disabled Veteran, I was a firefighter for years, and see how bad it really is.
I have seen doctor’s cuss out veterans.
Have back pay and disability denials, and they owe me for 38 years and caught them lying by making up excuses. They do not even follow their own regulations, they just say we deny or there is nothing we can do. They change appointments and then send you a nasty gram letter about the veteran missed their appointment and then threaten to have you start over again in the Whole system like a new person.
I have problems getting my Diabetic medications and insulin’s cause they do not send them out over night UPS in a Cold Foam container box, and had to go without for weeks. I had to go myself to Walmart by trying to get a ride and buy Some NPH N Insulin till I could get some from the VA. This happened three times in a row. The VA REGIONAL OFFICE changed a service connection disability to a non service disability so they did not have to pay me check and back pay. IN fact after my discharge I had a 30% eye disability and never got a check for them each month either. When you claim disabilities after leaving the military they do not list them all, so the Vteran is at the Mercy of the VA with no recourse. I had to write my senator and he has a investigation on all my issues, and the VA IS STALLING HIM TOO AND HAVE NO ANSWER YET JUST WAITING AND WAITING.

It really just matters where you live. I have been going to the VA since being medical discharged about 5 years ago. When I originally started going the experience felt like any normal doctor, but over the years it has deteriorated. I have been trying to get an appointment with my doctor for months now. Her nurse calls my cell phone when I have it setup to call my work. I have complained about this and there has not been any change. After going to the Emergency room I Finally started using the secure message on myhealthyvet and got a response. I had a few appointments for labs, ex-rays, and specialty clinics, but never heard anything back. It has been weeks with no response and I do not feel any better. I have made the choice to start going to a private doctor. Luckily I have all my records. I am very disappointed in the new overhaul that has taken place here. I cannot blame the doctors for everything. The swarm of patients is insane since this was all put in the spotlight. It will take time to return, but on another note. My coworker filed a complaint with the IG because her mothers (life partner) died due to lack of and poor care from the VA. Here take this med. Told an 88 year old man to drive 80 miles to get a test done when he had a ruptured hernia.
Way to go!!!
