When you learn about the life of this high school senior in Suffolk, Va. — the way he has risen to meet all sorts of tough family challenges while excelling in his studies, as well as athletics — you have to wonder how this outstanding young American does it.
One has no trouble at all, however, understanding why 18-year-old Caleb Parsons has been awarded the prestigious, national honor of being selected as Military Child of the Year by Operation Homefront, a nationwide organization dedicated to providing emergency and other financial assistance to the families of U.S. service members, veterans, and wounded warriors.
As the TV station serving the Suffolk market, WTKR, reports, Caleb had to make hard choices and more than a few sacrifices when both of his parents were deployed, leaving him to care for his three younger siblings. At the same time, he was determined to keep up with his school work and maintain his high performance standards — after graduation Caleb is headed to West Point for Army Officer Training.
By clicking on the video above, you can meet the young man from a small Virginia city who credits his faith and his family for helping to lift him to a life of inspiring achievement.
