In this recipe, we use coconut oil and essential oils to create a melt-on-your-skin moisturizing cream perfume, which is non-toxic, cheap, and easy to make.
It’s a good alternative if you are allergic to regular perfumes, or feel they’re too synthetic or overpowering.
I enjoy making my own homemade perfumes for many reasons:
They are far more economical than any perfume you buy in the shop, without smelling cheap and nasty.
They don’t contain toxic chemicals hidden under the umbrella word “fragrance” in the list of ingredients.
They are original. I often get people asking me: “What perfume are you wearing ? It smells divine! “
Coconut oil moisturizes and protects the skin, whereas alcohol perfumes can irritate the skin—ever get that tingly feeling after you spritz?
Regular perfumes contain chemicals that irritate people who have allergies and sensitive skin.
Cream perfume makes a perfect gift for someone who needs some pampering.
You can rub this perfume straight onto the skin to become a massage oil.
The recipe:

Collect all the ingredients you will need: a small saucepan, essential oils, coconut oil, a spoon, and a small jar or tin.
Scoop out 3 large tablespoons of coconut oil from the jar, and put into the saucepan. If you live in a warm climate, coconut oil may melt too easily. In this case, use cacao butter, bees wax, or your favorite moisturizer.
Place this over gentle heat until the oil has completely tuned to liquid. Then set aside to cool for a few minutes.

Add 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil. Use caution when using oils such as cinnamon, as they can burn the skin when not diluted enough.
Add your favorite essential oils to the liquid oil; I’m adding Rose Geranium. (Image: Chani Blue)
Stir the mixture well, and pour into a jar or tin. Leave until cooled and solid.
You are now ready to use your new perfume.
