The locals are completely confused as to why this owl has shown up in their little village and started landing on their heads. But they’re loving it… at least the people who aren’t scared.

The most probable explanation is that he is an escaped or released domestic owl from someone’s aviary, and is actually looking for food. Landing on a human’s head and getting fed must be what he’s used to.
The Eurasian Eagle Owl weighs around 6 pounds, the size of a small newborn baby, but is much bigger due to its full plumage. This is quite a lot of weight, and he likes to roost on the heads of passersby for up to a minute before looking for a new head. His claws are big and scratchy, but it’s worth it for the enchanted people in the Dutch town of Noordeinde.

However, the other side of the story is that little children are frightened of the bird, and one burly fellow describes the experience as being hit in the head by a brick with nails in it.
The news report below takes the dramatic angle of it being aggressive and attacking nervous locals. Some suggest its aggression is due to it being mating season, but these birds usually stay away from humans.
People have started using umbrellas when going out to save their heads from the owl.
