The contentious recall election that Scott Walker survived in 2012 did a lot to elevate the Wisconsin governor’s political profile and position him for a possible bid to become the GOP nominee for president in 2016. The man Walker defeated in that high-stakes challenge was Milwaukee’s Democrat Mayor Tom Barrett, who’s apparently still aiming to bring Walker down.
Following a weekend shooting in Milwaukee that left two people dead, Mayor Barrett held a news conference in which he suggested that Walker and Republican state lawmakers are partially to blame for the shooting deaths.
According to Fox News, Barrett “blamed the shooting on recent gun laws championed by Walker and Republican state lawmakers.”
That set off a strong push-back from Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who said that Barrett was way off base in his criticism of the law and his attack on Walker.
