Duggar Father-In-Law Exposes Huge Part Of Josh Duggar Situation The Media Forgets
In a lengthy online post, Michael Seewald, father-in-law to Jessa Duggar, stated his reasons why he is “rooting” for and standing by Josh and the Duggar family. He also reminded readers of some very important people who have been lost in the media melee.
Jessa, 22, married Seewald’s son, Ben, 20, last November.
Seewald wrote in his post entitled Grace Greater Than Our Sin: “There is blood in the water and the sharks are in a feeding frenzy. Finally, the Duggar family’s opponents have found what they have been eagerly waiting for: shocking revelations of scandal by Jim Bob and Michelle’s firstborn son, Josh.”
Seewald said he felt compelled to weigh in and offer perspective on what has been widely reported about Josh’s behavior 12 years ago, when he admitted to molesting five underage girls when he was a 14 year old.
As to the charge that the Duggars should have made Josh’s actions public years ago, Seewald writes that the Josh’s parents, Jim Bob and Michelle, “are to be praised for not hiding this from the appropriate parties and eventually the police, but they owed it to no one else to publicize the sins of a minor child and the court agrees with that assessment, the judge now ordering that the police report be destroyed. But the cat is already out of the bag. How many of you would broadcast the sins of your children to the whole world? Would you be willing to publicize your own darkest moments?”
For those who expressed shock this sort of behavior could happen in a Christian family, Seewald points out that the Bible recognizes we are all born into sin and must ultimately come to terms with that and enter into a relationship with our Creator individually. Josh ultimately made that step into God’s kingdom and took responsibility for his sinful actions.
“So, what is the ultimate answer?” Seewald writes. “The answer is what Josh found and millions like him. He found forgiveness and cleansing from Jesus Christ. There are many of you that are reading these words right now having had thoughts and deeds no better than what Josh had and did. You are a sinner.”
As Seewald drew his essay to a close, he offered support and hope for the victims of abuse, the group that has been forgotten by the media. “Finally, a word to the millions of muted victims of sexual abuse all over the world. It is not your fault. No matter what the abuser may have said, you are not the one to blame. Do not keep silent if you are being abused, tell someone you trust, a parent, a teacher, a friend, anyone is better than silence.”
He wrote that Jesus is the ultimate “healer” of the human soul.
