TLC announced last week that it was pulling the Duggar family-based reality program 19 Kids and Counting from its schedule following the revelation that the family’s oldest child, Josh, had molested 5 females when he was 14 years old.
The incidents happened five years before the show went on the air in 2008.
As reported by Western Journalism, the network has not made a final determination whether the show will continue, though full episodes of 19 Kids and Counting as well as promotional materials remain on the network’s website
Now, thousands have signed a petition to TLC’s president and other top executives calling for them to support the Duggars and return the program to the network’s schedule.
The message sent to the network reads:
I’m contacting you today on behalf of the Duggar family, whose show you just pulled from the TLC schedule, despite high ratings and widespread popularity that draw millions of viewers to the show every week.
I agree with Josh Duggar that the acts he committed against his siblings as a teenager were inexcusable and wrong. His sisters graciously forgave him when they could have easily rejected his request for forgiveness. Since then, the tragedy has ultimately drawn the family closer together and closer to God.
Americans need more families like the Duggars. We need families that turn to God in times of crisis, families that rely on each other and are united under the care of loving and sacrificial parents.
I’m asking you to put 19 Kids and Counting back on the air!
Also, please understand that I will no longer be tuning into TLC until you have reinserted the show into the schedule.
During the Duggar reality show’s 10 seasons, over 220 episodes have aired according to USA Today.
The two-hour special last summer, featuring the marriage of Jill Duggar, brought in over 4.4 million viewers, making it the most watched program on TLC in the last four years.
