Family Who Cheered For Graduating Student Could Receive This MASSIVE Punishment
Four people are facing criminal charges after cheering during a Mississippi high school graduation ceremony.
Henry Walker vocally praised his family member, 18-year-old Lanarcia Walker as she graduated from Senatobia High School, WREG reported Tuesday. “He said ‘you did it baby’, waived his towel and went out the door,’” explained Lanarcia’s mother Linda.
“When she went across the stage I just called her name out. ‘Lakaydra’. Just like that,” Ursula Miller said of her niece.
Police at Northwest Mississippi Community College stated that no cheering was permitted during the ceremony. Miller and Walker, along with two others, were escorted out of the hall. WREG explains what happened next:
Senatobia Municipal School District Superintendent Jay Foster filed ‘disturbing the peace’ charges against the people who yelled at graduation. Officers issued warrants for their arrests with a possible $500 bond.
“It’s crazy,” Henry Walker said of the charges. “The fact that I might have to bond out of jail, pay court costs, or a $500 fine for expressing my love, it’s ridiculous man. It’s ridiculous.”
Miller agreed. “I can understand they can escort me out of the graduation, but to say they going to put me in jail for it. What else are they allowed to do?”
“Why assign papers on someone? We don’t have money for anything like that,” added Linda Walker.
For his part, Foster says it’s not crazy, insisting it is important to maintain order at school functions. A court appearance for the charged individuals is scheduled for Monday.
