Shocking Video Shows What Happens When Armed Robber Picks The Wrong Off-Duty Cop

In surveillance footage recently uploaded to LiveLeak, a harrowing exchange between a would-be robber and an off-duty cop plays out with the latter’s young daughter caught in the middle. The roughly two-minute video shows the encounter from different angles; and according to its LiveLeak description, the video was taken at a gas station in the Brazilian city of Araguari, in Minas Gerais.

The footage appears to show a man approach a father and daughter as they pumped gas. Almost immediately, the father draws his firearm and begins shooting at the suspect. Though the girl seems to cower in the midst of the ensuing commotion, she was reportedly not injured in the exchange. Aside from the suspect, the only injury reported was minor and involved a station attendant.

Few additional details were immediately available, though comments in response to the video on sites like LiveLeak and BizPac Review offered some theories and criticism.

One common complaint among LiveLeak readers was that the undercover cop appeared to shoot in the direction of his daughter in attempting to hit the suspect. Several commenters defended the shooter’s actions, though.

“I think everybody is being too critical of him backing behind his daughter,” the reader wrote. “He clearly realized that and moved around the car instead.”

Another pointed out that the “proof is there that he’s a good shot.”

Comments in response to the BizPac Review article ranged from praise for the cop’s heroism to concern for his daughter. For good measure, at least one individual felt the need to take a potshot at U.S. cops.

“He definitely allowed his daughter in the line of fire,” the critic wrote, “but, I’m shocked he allowed the perp to get that close to him! Within 21 feet, you can’t draw quick enough to avoid a knife stab. On the other hand, and sad to say, this guy is a much better shot than 80% of American cops…”

Among those quick to denounce such rhetoric was one reader, who shot back:

So, how long have you been teaching police officers how to do their jobs? I take it that you do it on a global scale? Are you ready to start teaching the military how to defend the country? SHUT UP.
