Following a discussion of the controversial nuclear deal with Iran during Wednesday’s GOP presidential debate, candidate Mike Huckabee wanted to make sure he made his views clear. (See video below.)
“I would certainly love to get in on this,” he told moderator Jake Tapper.
Tucked away in the agreement’s details, Huckabee lamented, could be the impetus behind Western civilization’s downfall.
“This is not just a little conflict with a Middle Eastern country that we’ve now given over $100 billion to,” he said, “—the equivalent in U.S. terms is $5 trillion. This threatens the entire Middle East but it threatens the United States of America.”
The Iranian regime has already promised – and begun to deliver – violence against U.S. targets.
“And we can’t treat a nuclear Iranian government as if it is just some government that would like to have some power,” he cautioned. “This is a government that for 36 years has killed Americans. They kidnapped Americans. They’ve maimed Americans. They have sponsored terrorist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah.”
In addition to its threat against the U.S., Huckabee warned of the repercussions a nuclear Iran could have in Israel.
“This threatens Israel immediately,” he asserted.
In reality, though, he said no one alive would be safe from such a global menace.
“We must simply make it very clear that the next president, one of us on this stage, will absolutely not honor that agreement and will destroy it and will be tough with Iran,” he concluded. “Because otherwise, we put every person in this world in a very dangerous place.”
