The Bible Verse Kim Davis Just Shared With The World From Jail Says It All

(Before It's News)

Jailed Kentucky clerk Kim Davis is a prisoner in body, but not in spirit. As she sits in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples, Davis shared a powerful Bible verse with her supporters.

Davis read the passage from 2 Timothy 1:7-8 and asked her attorneys to share with the public:

God did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and self-control. Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in the suffering for the gospel and the power of God.

“She may be a prisoner because of her faith, but Kim is freer than most Americans,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, which is representing Davis. “Kim Davis has never sought the spotlight. Although some people have said she is a hero and some accuse her of wanting to be a martyr, neither is true. Kim bristles at the thought. She loves God, loves people, and loves her job. She remains faithful to all three and that is why she is here in jail.”

Davis, who was jailed last week, has been reading her Bible while behind bars.

“She exudes gentleness and is at peace. Her spirits remain high,” said Harry Mihet, one of her lawyers who met with Davis in jail. “She was brought to tears when she heard that so many people outside the jail and around the country are praying for her.”

Davis’ lawyers are appealing the decision to force her to issue marriage licenses against her religious beliefs. They have also filed a request for an order that would set her free while the appeals process goes forward.

“The governor’s refusal to take elementary steps to protect religious liberties has now landed Kim Davis in jail. As a prisoner of her conscience, Davis continues to request a simple accommodation and exemption from the governor,” Staver added.

Gov. Steve Beshear has said in the past the issue is a matter between Davis and the courts.
