Many might be surprised to learn the only 9/11 memorial that lists all the names of the victims of the terrorist attacks is not in the U.S. It is in Israel, about 20 miles northwest of Jerusalem. The 9/11 Living Memorial Plaza was opened to the public in 2009 and sits on 5 acres of land.
The Jerusalem Post reports that some 600 American Jews and 5 Israeli citizens were among the nearly 3000 victims of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The memorial was commissioned by the Jewish National Fund at a cost of approximately $2 million. The 30 foot tall majestic bronze/aluminum monument sits on top a metal base made of steel melted and reformed from the ruins of the Twin Towers.

JNF chairman Efi Stenzler said at the dedication ceremony in 2009: “This site is not intended solely for memorial purposes; we constructed it also as a symbol of hope.”

On the occasion of this year’s ceremony marking 9/11, JNF’s Stenzer said: “This is a torch for those who want and believe in peace and in the rights of human beings. We today salute the fighters and the families of the victims, and we look forward to better times.”
